Who can claim Housing Benefit?

Anyone can claim but:

People with more than £16,000 in savings are not entitled to housing benefit even if their income is low.

Most full-time students cannot claim housing benefit unless they are pensioners, lone parents, disabled, getting income support, job seekers allowance income based or they have dependent children, or are responsible for a child boarded out with them.

Otherwise anyone who pays rent for their home to a Council, Housing Association or private landlord may claim.

Who can claim Council Tax Benefit?

Anyone who has to pay Council Tax can claim Council Tax Benefit.

You may:

· have a partner or be single
· be a pensioner
· be employed or self employed
· get social security benefits, but

the restrictions mentioned above apply to Council Tax as well as Housing Benefit.
