Illumination for footlights walkway
New blue lighting has been installed to bring out the charm of Guildford's Theatre Walkway and increase security for pedestrians.
The Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Tony Phillips, and Yvonne Arnaud trustees helped launch the lighting scheme as part of Guildford Borough Council's Lighting Strategy; this aims to use light imaginatively to reduce crime and the fear of crime.
In this case, blue light from discreet and energy efficient fittings focuses on the curved wall of the theatre. The project was carried out by Guildford Borough Council environmental planning group, working closely with the Surrey Police, Surrey County Council and Urbis Lighting Consultants.
The walkway leads from the town centre to the theatre and Millmead car park. It complements recent lighting improvements to Rosemary Alley, which increase light levels in that historically sensitive passageway.
