Accidents at Work

Did you know?

All accidents, which occur at work, should be recorded in an accident book.
This information enables you to identify where and how risks arise.

Certain Accidents are legally reportable.
This can be done in a number of ways:

  • On the Internet at www.riddor.gov.uk
  • or via the HSE web site www.hse.gov.uk
  • By telephone charged at local rate
    0845 300 9923
  • By fax charged at local rate
    0845 300 9924
  • By e-mail riddor@natbrit.com
  • By post:
    Incident Contact Centre
    Caerphilly Business Park
    Caerphilly
    CF83 3 GG

What do you need to report?

  • A death or major injury such as a broken bone
  • An over three day injury (that is when an employee or self employed person has an accident at work and is unable to work for three days) but does not have a major injury
  • An accident to a non-employee such as a visitor or customer on your premises, which results in them being taken to hospital for treatment
  • A work related disease
  • A dangerous occurrence e.g. when something happens that does not result in a reportable injury, but which clearly could have done.
