Who
are we?
Founded
in 1898 by Surrey Archaeological Society, Guildford Museum
now houses the largest collection of archaeology, local
history and needlework in the county.
|
 |
 |
What
can you see?
Archaeology
Our collection ranges from Palaeolithic hand axes to Roman
priests' head dresses, Saxon coins, famous Mediaeval floor
tiles, and an outstanding collection of 17th century pottery
and glass.
|
|
Local
History
We
display objects and pictures covering local trades and industries,
social life and customs, childhood and the home. Artefacts
relating to local characters, such as Lewis Carroll and
Gertrude Jekyll, also feature prominently.
|
 |
 |
Needlework
Our
needlework collection includes most types of sewing, such
as samplers, patchwork, dress accessories, baby clothes
and lace, and a large collection of smocks.
